Everything you'd do — done with the same care

Our respite carers step in seamlessly. Your loved one's routine, preferences and comfort remain at the centre of everything.

Regular scheduled relief

Weekly or fortnightly respite sessions, on the days and times that suit your family best.

Emergency respite when you need it urgently

Unexpected illness, a crisis, or simply reaching your limit — we respond quickly when you call.

All personal care and daily living support

Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting — everything your loved one needs, handled with dignity.

Companionship and meaningful engagement

Conversation, activities they enjoy, gentle outings — so time feels purposeful, not just managed.

Medication support during respite periods

Prompting and assistance with medications, following the care plan your regular team uses.

Transport and social activities

Outings, community activities, or simply a change of scenery — we can facilitate this during your break.

Seamless handover — fully briefed on every detail

Your respite carer knows exactly how your loved one likes things. No adapting required, no settling in period — just continuation of the routine you've built.

Why families trust us with their rest

Respite isn't just about the hours you're away. It's about knowing — truly knowing — that your loved one is in the right hands.

We speak their language — literally

We match carers by language and cultural background. When your loved one is in our care, they can communicate freely and feel genuinely understood — not just looked after.

Consistent carers, not strangers

We work hard to send the same carer each visit. Familiarity reduces anxiety, builds trust, and makes respite something your loved one looks forward to rather than tolerates.

Guilt-free flexibility

You shouldn't have to justify taking a break. We keep your schedule or adjust it at short notice. Emergency respite, planned relief, extended stays — we flex around your life.

You don't have to be at breaking point to ask for help

Respite care is for any family carer who carries the weight of daily support — whether that's been going on for months or decades. You might be:

  • An adult child managing a parent's care alongside work and your own family
  • A spouse who has been your partner's carer for years and needs time to recharge
  • A sibling sharing care duties and needing occasional reliable cover
  • Anyone who simply needs an afternoon, a full day, or a regular weekly break
  • A family facing a care emergency and needing immediate help

There is no shame in needing rest. In fact, carers who take regular breaks provide better care. Respite is a gift to both of you.

Getting started is simple

Tell us what you need

Call us on 0469 371 121 or send an enquiry. Tell us about your loved one, your routine, and when you need a break. There are no wrong answers — just a conversation.

We match the right carer

We choose a carer based on your loved one's language, personality, care needs and interests. We'll introduce them before the first visit so everyone feels comfortable.

Take your break — truly

Care begins on your terms. You can call, check in, or simply rest. We'll send you an update after each visit and flag anything that needs your attention.

Frequently asked questions

How often can I access respite care?
As often as you need it. Many family carers use respite care weekly or fortnightly to maintain their own health. Others use it seasonally or when life gets particularly demanding. Your respite schedule is built around what works best for you and your loved one — there is no minimum or maximum frequency. If you have Support at Home funding, your budget will guide how much funded respite you can access.
Is respite care covered by Support at Home?
Yes. Respite care is an eligible service under the Support at Home program. The amount of respite you can access funded through your budget depends on your classification level. J.PEER Health can help you understand exactly what your budget covers and how to make the most of it. Private respite arrangements are also available if you're waiting for an assessment or prefer a private arrangement.
Will my loved one be comfortable with a new carer?
This is the most common concern we hear from families — and it's completely understandable. Before care begins, we take time to learn everything about your loved one: their routine, their preferences, what they like to talk about, how they take their tea. We match carers thoughtfully, including by language and cultural background where relevant. The first visit is always gentle and unhurried, and we encourage families to be present if that helps everyone feel more settled.
Can I arrange emergency respite at short notice?
Yes. J.PEER Health provides emergency and short-notice respite for family carers who find themselves overwhelmed, unwell, or facing an unexpected situation. We understand that care crises don't follow a schedule. Call us on 0469 371 121 and our team will work to arrange cover as quickly as possible — often same day or next day.
What's the difference between in-home respite and residential respite?
In-home respite means a carer comes to your loved one's home so they can stay in their familiar environment while you take a break. Residential respite involves a short stay in an aged care facility. Most families and older Australians strongly prefer in-home respite — it's less disruptive, maintains routine, and is far less distressing, particularly for people living with dementia or cognitive change. J.PEER Health specialises in in-home respite only.
